What is Azimo?

Azimo provides cheap and fast international money transfers and aims to financially empower people from all of the countries by providing affordable services. They have established a network of partners and intermediaries, which make it easy to move the money from country to country, even in a matter of minutes.

How Does Azimo Work?

They hold the currencies in most of the popular countries, which allows them to release the funds to your recipient almost instantly without the actual need to move the money across the borders. You can pay securely with a Visa, Master Card, Maestro, or regular bank wire. The money is then delivered to your recipient’s bank account or in a local pick-up point or company’s facility.

To send money through Azimo, you need to open a free account on their webpage, fill out the money transfer information and they will take care of the rest for you

Azimo Fees and Costs

The fees depend from country to country. However, you should expect costs at around 1GBP - 5GBP for most of the popular destinations and Europe countries, while more remote places can cost up to 12GBP.

They have an exciting promotion and offer the first two transactions for free for you to check out the quality of service.

Azimo Exchange Rate

Most of the users report that the exchange rate is worse compared to the competition and other financial institutions. By checking the prices on their online money transfer tool, we can estimate that they are around 2% lower than the market ones.

Azimo Limits

The minimum amount is set at 10GBP, and the maximum limit depends on your delivery method and local regulations. For example, card payments have a maximum amount of 12,000 GBP per transaction.

Azimo compared to wire transfer and banks

As it is stated on their website: “Save 90% with us versus your bank or offline transfer provider thanks to better rates, lower fees and no extra charge for debit card payments.” While obviously it’s a marketing statement, the services are indeed significantly cheaper compared to most of the mainstream banks. Banks SWIFT network, adds up to transaction time and costs. Azimo claims that their average transfer fee is 1.99GBP, while banks provide the services in the 10GBP range.

On the other hand, Azimo isn’t as well established as any mainstream bank in terms of security, financial experience, and scale of operations. However, they still cooperate with local financial institutions to finalize the transaction in your recipient’s country.

How to use Azimo?

To get access to international money transfers through Azimo, you need to register a free account.

How to sign up?

Visit their webpage and click on the “Sign up” button at the top of the page. You can then choose what type of account do you want to set up. Fill out the necessary information and undergo a verification process to have full access to the money transfer.

The platform explains that:

“Sometimes, depending on the amount you’re sending and the recipient’s country, we need to ask you for a few more details. This is due to our Know Your Customer (KYC) Policy, which is a standard safety procedure across financial services in the EU and the UK. It helps us keep your money secure by verifying that it’s actually you sending the money.”

Is Azimo safe and reliable?

Azimo is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and complies with any KYC procedures and anti-money laundering laws. Moreover, they have a unique system which scans the transactions to spot any unusual activities. They explain that: “From time to time, we may stop a transfer and contact you to ensure the safety of your money further.” Thanks to that, you can be assured that a hacker won’t steal your funds easily. The website is also protected by MasterCard SecureCode and is verified by VISA, which is both popular and experienced financial service companies.

Public Reception

They have been recognized multiple times for their online financial services and were mentioned as one of the “Britain’s 100 private companies with the fastest-growing sales” or “Top 10 Money Saving Apps”. They were even recognized at Remittances Awards at United Nations for connecting and enabling financially many of the less-developed countries.

Most of the people are very satisfied with the quality of the services. They mention that it’s in most cases, fast and cheap to send money through Azimo.

“Azimo is very fast a reliable. My first transfer took more than 24hours but my recent ones take less than 5 minutes. I totally recommend” ~ Emman on Trustpilot

“I am extremely happy and satisfied with Azimo services. I make regular transfers from UK to Nigeria. The money leaves my UK account and gets to my Nigerian account in seconds! Literally!!” ~ Victor on Trustpilot

The majority of negative comments focus on unfavorable exchange rates. Reportedly, they are often significantly much lower than the market ones. Therefore, one can assume that the company is taking a significant margin on the currency exchange:

“The experience is fantastic but the exchange rate is too low compared with other exchange companies.” ~ Olabisi on Trustpilot

“I’ve stopped using Azimo, because their gbp to peso exchange rates have gone from being constantly above the official rate, to now 2 pesos per gbp below.” ~ Pedro on BAexpats

Another point made in the complaints is that it’s hard to reach customer support, as you can’t directly call them for instant help:

“Azimo is reliable, easy and fast. I've never been disappointed. However, not having a direct telephone number to contact the customer services team made me crazy when something went wrong during a transfer process. I suggest they make available their customer service telephone number as it used to be. Most money transfer institutions have direct contact numbers and it helps.” ~ suggests Herbert in his Azimo review on Trustpilot

Customer Support

Unfortunately, there is no direct telephone number available, so if you have an urgent issue, it won’t be easy to contact Azimo. There is a well-developed help section on the website, which may solve most of the fundamental problems and explain how to make your first transfer. You can also reach customer support through a chat within your account or email them.

Final Thoughts

Azimo Review

While the exchange rates might not be the best on the market, Azimo undoubtedly provides one of the cheapest and fastest money transfers. Thanks to their network of local financial partners, they can deliver your money within minutes to most of the popular destinations. The services reaches even the less-developed countries and enable them financially. The sole design of the platform is rather good. However, they lack transparency with some information, as it’s hard to find many details about the company. There is also a problem with customer service, as you can’t reach them via phone call, which delays solving any urgent issues.
