Editorial guidelines

How our content is created

Wirly uses AI-assisted drafting as part of a multi-step editorial process. Every article goes through the following stages before publication:

  1. Research and data gathering: We pull data from named government sources including the Federal Reserve (FRED), CFPB, HMDA, FHFA, Freddie Mac, and the U.S. Census Bureau. These sources anchor every factual claim in the article.
  2. AI-assisted drafting: Initial content is drafted using AI writing tools, structured around verified data points and CFPB consumer guidance.
  3. Quality validation: Every article passes through automated quality checks for minimum word count, internal linking, data attribution, and YMYL compliance before it reaches an editor.
  4. Human editorial review: The Wirly editorial team reviews all content for accuracy, clarity, proper hedging of financial claims, and compliance with our data standards before publishing.
  5. Source attribution: Every published article includes inline source citations and a Sources section listing the government data used.

Editorial independence

Affiliate relationships do not influence Wirly's editorial content, lender rankings, or recommendations. Specifically:

  • No lender can pay for a higher ranking or favorable editorial coverage
  • Calculator math is independent of any business relationship
  • Non-partner lenders are included in comparisons based on HMDA data and consumer relevance
  • Editorial decisions are made by the Wirly editorial team, not by advertising partners

Data standards

All financial data on Wirly is sourced from federal agencies and attributed inline. We use the following government data sources:

  • FRED (Federal Reserve Economic Data): Daily and weekly mortgage rate data
  • Freddie Mac PMMS: Weekly national average rate benchmarks
  • HMDA: Lending volume, approval rates, and denial data by lender and state
  • CFPB: Consumer protection guidance and complaint data
  • FHFA: Conforming loan limits and house price indices
  • U.S. Census Bureau: Housing demographics and median home values

When specific figures are cited (rates, credit score minimums, fee ranges), the source is attributed on the page where the data appears. We do not use unverified third-party aggregator data.

Corrections policy

If we identify an error in published content, we correct it promptly and note the correction on the page with the date it was made. If the error affected a calculator or data display, we review the underlying logic to prevent recurrence.

If you believe something on Wirly is inaccurate, please contact us at [email protected]. We investigate all reported errors.

Review cadence

  • Rate data: Updated daily from the FRED API
  • Lender profiles: Reviewed quarterly for accuracy of credit requirements, loan types, and fee descriptions
  • Educational guides: Reviewed periodically and updated when regulations, market conditions, or best practices change
  • Calculator logic: Reviewed when standard amortization formulas or industry conventions change
  • HMDA data: Updated annually when the CFPB publishes new aggregate data
